The project "Cross-border Flood Protection and Rescue" has among its goals raising of citizens' awareness about prevention and fight against natural disasters, with a special stress to flood protection, and a great attention was paid to the pupils of elementary schools in the cross-border region.
The education of pupils was carried out, through special lectures, with about 2000 pupils from target municipalities, Berane, Niksic and Pljevlja, who participated and had the opportunity to get more information about natural disasters in general, risks and causes of floods, potential dangers which accompany floods, as well as about the instructions on what to do before, during and after floods.
They were delivered by the professionals from the Directorate for Emergency Management and local protection and rescue units.
The lectures were adjusted to the target group's interests and age and apart from the above mentioned topics presented the system of protection and rescue in Montenegro and the work of institutions and units dealing with protection and rescue and emphasised the important telephoned numbers that should be dialled in case of emergency or danger. The students also received leaflets containing basic information about natural hazards, causes of floods and advice on what can be done in case of floods and also what are useful preparatory activities. 2000 copies of the leaflet were printed on recycled paper and distributed during lectures.
