In order to present the results achieved within the project CLEAN – Citizens Learning Environmental Actions Needed, funded by the European Union through Cross-border Cooperation Programme Serbia-Montenegro, the Municipality of Nova Varos organised a press conference in cooperation with other project partners.
The press conference was organised on 19 June in Nova Varos, and the results achieved were presented by Ivan Mladenović, Deputy Mayor of Nova Varos, Darko Cukranovic from the Office for European Integration of the Republic of Serbia – Department for cross-border cooperation, Marija Djikanovic, representive of FORS Montenegro, Suzana Suljagic, Director of the Public Utility Company ″3 September″ from Nova Varos, Aziz Hadzifejzovic, Director of the Public Utility Company ″Lim" from Prijepolje and Milinko Saponjic, Project Implementation Manager from the Municipality of Nova Varos.
All speakers agreed on the significant importance of the project, emphasising the improvement of technical capacities of five public utility companies through procurement of 249 containers for selective waste collection, five baling press machine for collected waste, two wood shredders, a vacuum cleaner for public spaces, a lifting truck and 125 concrete bins for waste collection. Total value of the equipment procured thorugh this project is 185.395,18 euros.
The speakers also emphasised the educational activities, which they assessed as very usfeul. Within this component, two cross-border trainings on proper waste management, elective waste disposal and recycling were organised, as well as a study visit to the recycling centre ″CERO Gajke" in Ptuj, Slovenia, during which the employees of the municipal departmnents dealing with environmental protection and public utility companies had the opportunity to learn about best practices in waste management applied in the European Union. They also spoke about the activities aiming at raising environmental awareness of the local population – educational lectures for citizens and primary school students, distribution of promotional materials and media campaign.
The project CLEAN – Citizens Learning Environmental Actions Needed was implemented from July 2012 to June 2014, by the Municipality of Niksic, FORS Montenegro, Municipality of Berane, Municipality of Pljevlja, public utility companies from these three municipalities and local self-governments and public utility companies from Plrijepolje i Nova Varos.
Total project value for Montenegro is € 225,675.00, and the European Union contribution was 85%.
