“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”
Through FORS Montenegro project a new basketball court has been built in the yard of the Primary School "Ratko Žarić“ for students, athletes, amateur sportsmen and all other citizens. The project of renovation of the basketball court has been financially supported through Calls for proposals for the allocation of the part of lottery income for 2015 and 2016, Call of the Municipality of Nikšić for allocation of funds to non-governmental organisations for 2016. Basketball Association of Montenegro provided baskets and other partners which cordially supported building of the court are: Public Waterworks Company Nikšić, Akropolis doo, Lisina doo, Trgotehna doo, Ramel doo and the Municipality of Nikšić. The idea for such a court was born a long time ago, and the process from fundraising to completing the project lasted for a year. All this support enabled one modern and quality court – a place where hopefully new basketball champions will be born and which will be used by a lot of future generations. Total value of the project is around € 35 000 which includes rubber base, baskets, spotlights and the audience seating.
The court was officialiy opened on 28 October when a basketball caravan was organised by the Baksetball Association of Montenegro and IDEA Company. The participants of the caravan were WBC Roling, WBC Nikšić, BC Montenegro, BC Anagastum, BC Sutjeska and BC Panter. Young pioneers competed in mini relay, pinoeers in free throws, while cadets and juniors competed in three-point throws.
The idea is that school uses the court during weekdays, from the morning to 7 p.m. and to maybe earn some funds through renting it to basketball schools and teams, which would serve for maintenance of the court. Also, the idea is that the court is available from 7 p.m. to 12 p.m. and in summer from 4 p.m. to 12. p.m. for amateur sportsmen.
We hope that the citizens of Nikšić will use the court in a responsible manner and save it for future generations. We also hope that it won't remain as the only such court and that children and youth, as well as all other citizens of Nikšić, which has always been a sports town, get a lot of similar places for sport and recreation.
