In order to improve coordination of the line bodies at the local level in case of emergencies, a training for municipal teams from emergency management on Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management was organized in Zabljak on 9 and 10 September. The training was attended by 20 members of municipal teams for emergency management from Nikšić, Žabljak, Pljevlja, Plužine and Šavnik. As municipal teams for emergency management are among the main actors when hazards strike a municipality, during the training the participants had the opportunity to learn about key concepts of disaster risk reduction, the role of municipal teams for emergencies, components of disaster risk management at the local level, identification, evaluation and monitoring of risks, formulation of local plans as well as international initiatives and cooperation in disaster risk reduction.
Valuable equipment for protection from fires procured within the project of FORS Montenegro, "Cross-border Fire Protection", has been presented today, in the premises of the Protection and Rescue Service of Niksic Municipality. During the presentation, speeches were given by Mr Veselin Grbović, the Mayor of Nikšić, Mr Veselin Gardašević, Head of Protection and Rescue Service of Nikšić Municipality, Milan Radović, Head of Department for Training and Operational Activities in the Directorate for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro and Mr Veselin Šturanović, Executive Director of FORS Montenegro. Total of 50 sets of firefighting equipment were procured for rescuers from Niksic, worth € 23,500 and including firefighting overalls, helmets and belts, protective gloves, backpack firefighting pumps, firefighting brooms, as well as four lamps for helmets.
The equipment procured within the project "Cross-border Fire Protection" for the Directorate for Emergency Management and municipal protection and rescue services from Niksic, Pljevlja, Pluzine, Savnik and Zabljak is worth € 95,675 and will significantly contribute to capacity building of these institutions and services for more efficient protection from fires which cause considerable negative consequences, especially during summer months. The equipment procured consists of firefighting overalls, helmets and belts, protective gloves, backpack firefighting pumps and firefighting brooms. The equipment was presented during the press conference organised in Podgorica, on 31 May, during which the speeches were given by: Mr Mirsad Mulić, Director General of the Directorate for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro, Ms Donata Von Sigsfeld, Programme Manager at the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, Ms Ana Vukadinović, Acting Director General for Coordination of EU Assistance Programmes at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Mr Samir Agić, Assistant Minister for Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of Security of BiH, Mr Edin Garaplija, Head of the Institute for Protection of Fires and Explosions from Sarajevo, Mr Veselin Gardašević, Head of Protection and Rescue Service of Nikšić Municipality and Mr Veselin Šturanović, Executive Director of FORS Montenegro.
In order to inform potential applicants about the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance – IPA, FORS Montenegro organised info workshops in Žabljak and Pljevlja in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and local authorities of these two municipalities, on 9 May. The workshops gathered representatives of civil society organisations, local authorities, public institutions and enterprises, schools and other eligible applicants for this support of the European Union.
Ambassador Aleksandar Andrija Pejović, State Secretary for European Integration and National IPA Coordinator, Mayors of Žabljak and Pljevlja, Veselin Vukićević and Mirko Đačić and Mr Veselin Šturanović from FORS Montenegro spoke at the workshops. During the workshops, new financial perspective of IPA II and financial allocation for Montenegro for the period 2014-2020, cross-border and transnational programs and other information relevant for potential beneficiaries of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance were presented.
The next workshops will be organised in the following municipalities of the northern region:
- Kolašin, on 12 May, with the beginning at 9.00;
- Mojkovac, on 12 May, with the beginning at 11.30;
- Bijelo Polje, on 12 May, with the beginning at 14.00;
- Berane, on 13 May, with the beginning at 9.00;
- Petnjica, on 13 May, with the beginning at 12.00.
IPA workshops were organised within the project Let's Grow Together with IPA 2, funded by EU, whose aim is to strengthen capacities of civil society organisations for project writing and implementation, as well as promotion of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance and other support programs of the European Union among potential applicants.
In order to inform youth on types and causes of natural and other disasters, their consequences and preventive measures for their reduction, educational lectures on Disaster Risk Reduction were organised from 21 to 28 April for 1st and 2nd grade high school students from Nikšić, Pljevlja, Plužine, Žabljak and Šavnik. The lectures were organised in cooperation with the Directorate for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro and its field offices in Nikšić and Pljevlja as well as Protection and Rescue Units from Nikšić, Pljevlja and Žabljak. The following topics were elaborated through interaction between lecturers and students: definition and types of emergency situations, authorities in charge of emergencies, most frequent emergency situations in Montenegro and the region in the previous decades, the role of youth in disaster risk reduction, preventive measures which should be undertaken by each individual, etc.
