FORS Montenegro, in cooperation with the Directorate for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro, on 18 December started implementation of a new project, "Cross-border Fire Protection", funded by the European Union within Cross-border Cooperation Programme Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro. The project will be implemented in the following municipalities in Montenegro: Niksic, Pluzine, Savnik, Zabljak and Pljevlja, while the activities in BiH will be implemented in Mostar, Jablanica, Konjic, Ravno, Stolac, Cajnice, Gacko, Bileca and Trebinje by the Minsitry of Security of BiH and Institute for Protection of Fires and Explosions.
The project has the goal of improving capacities of institutions and services dealing with protection and rescue and disaster risk reduction, and it has been caused by the increasing number of fires in both countries, especially during summer season. Main project activities include procurement of valuable equipment for fight against fires, trainings and education for rescuers and other important actors in the protection and rescue system, cross-border exercises, awareness raising campaign aiming at informing citizens about dangers caused by fires, creation of a joint cross-border plan for protection from fires, etc.
The project will last 24 months and its value for Montenegro is € 229,159.29, out of which the EU finances 84,99% of the project costs which equals to € 194,762.48.
