In order to present the project "Cross-border Fire Protection" funded by the European Union within Cross-border Cooperation Programme BiH-Montenegro, the first press conference was organised in the premises of the Directorate for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro, on 27 January 2015. The Memorandum of Cooperation on the project was signed on that occasion.
The following representatives of the project partners spoke on the conference: Director-General of the Directorate for Emergency Management, Assistant Minister of Security of BiH Samir Agic, Director of the Institite for Fires and Explosion Safety Edin Garaplija and Executive Director of FORS Montenegro, Veselin Sturanovic.
Representatives of partner institutions and organisations pointed out that the project is very important for continuation of good cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro in the development of protection and rescue systems of both countries, as such projects contribute to adjustment of standards for development of the highest quality achievements in strengthening human and technical capacities of institutions and services dealing with protection from fires.
Main project activities include procurement of equipment for protection and rescue from fires, trainings for rescuers and other important actors in the protection and rescue systems on the topics related to protection from fires and DRR-disaster risk reduction, cross-border field exercises, raising awareness on the risks posed by fires, development of a joint cross-border plan for protection from fires etc.
The project, whose implementation started on 18 December 2014, lasts 24 months and covers 14 municipalities from Montenegro and BiH: Niksic, Zabljak, Pluzine, Pljevlja, Savnik, Mostar, Jablanica, Konjic, Ravno, Stolac, Cajnice, Gacko, Bileca and Trebinje.
