The team that works on the implementation of the project “Capacity building for sound management of areas of outstanding natural value” has successfully realized the first year of the project implementation, what has been confirmed by approval of the Interim Report Tim by European Commission in Brussels.
Activities in the first year were focused on the development of tools (development processes) for sustainable management of the pilot areas selected in Montenegro, BiH and Croatia.
FORS Montenegro Executive Director Veselin Sturanovic was invited from UNFAO / SWG to take part on Regional Participatory Planning Workshop: “Establishment of rural development networks in SEE countries”, March 02-05, 2011, Skopje, Macedonia.
As a start up of implementation of the FAO SWG TCP/RER/3302 project: “Support to capacity building for rural development and extension to support EU-integration of the South-Eastern European countries”, SWG Head Office/Secretariat and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO) organised Regional Participatory Planning Workshop.
FORS Montenegro implements the project CLEAN, funded by the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica. The project aims to raise awareness among children when related to environmental protection. The project target groups included children aged from 2 to 4 grades of 10 elementary schools in Niksic, Pljevlja and Danilovgrad. The purpose of this project is to introduce nature to the children, broadening their knowledge and motivation of them to think green.
As part of the project "Strengthening capacity to manage regions with outstanding natural values" FORS Montenegro in cooperation with the municipality of Pljevlja and partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina (Center for Environmentally Sustainable Development of Sarajevo), Slovenia (Nature »Logar Valley") and Croatia (Association for Environment Protection : "How Green My Valley"), presents a newsletter about sustainability No.2.
On 10th February FORS Montenegro organized a press conference within the project “Together for Nature”, funded by the European Union within IPA Cross-border Programme Serbia – Montenegro. The conference was organized in order to present the project, its objectives, methodology and activities. The most important results of the survey on environmental awareness that was conducted at the very beginning of the project were also presented to the public.
Persons with disabilities are faced with an issue of improper infrastructure at different facilities on a daily basis. Lack of adequate access ramps for persons with disabilities makes almost impossible access to most public institutions.
Within the project "Equal Opportunities", funded by the government of Montenegro, FORS Montenegro, in agreement with Organizations of persons with disabilities, individuals, local governments, and selected four public institutions in the north of Montenegro on which access ramp will be constructed.
During the period of 1 February 2011 – 31 May 2012, FORS Montenegro – Foundation for the Development of Northern Montenegro implemented the project “IPA funds for EU Integration”, approved by the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro. The project is worth 102 999.78 EUR. The overall objective of the project is to strengthen human capital of civil society and local authorities in northern Montenegro in relation to EU process.
From 16th November 2010 to 14th February 2012, Foundation for the Development of Northern Montenegro - FORS Montenegro implemented a project Together for Nature, funded by the European Union, within cross-border cooperation programme Serbia-Montenegro. The project is realised in the municipalities of Berane, Niksic and Pljevlja in Montenegro, and the municipality of Kraljevo in Serbia. Total value of the project is €273,000, while the part of the project realised in Montenegro is worth €148,720. Partners in the project are Utility Inspection Niksic and Agency for Environmental Protection Niksic, while in Serbia; the project is implemented by Public Utility Enterprise “Cistoca” from Kraljevo.
At the beginning of November within the activity "Development of tools for the effective management of areas of outstanding natural value", in order to define development processes for the management of the mountain Ljubisnja in Pljevlja two one-day visit was organized. Representatives of FORS Montenegro, consulting company OIKOS from Slovenia, “Consulting for development” ltd, and “Department for construction and development "of the municipality of Pljevlja visited local population settled in the southern and northern slopes of the mountain.
Berane, November 24th, 2010 – FORS Montenegro – Foundation for the Development of Northern Montenegro, organized the closing ceremony of the environmental protection project sponsored by Foundation Caritas Luxembourg.
The event, which is programmed as one of the project activities, gathered students, kids from the Berane Kindergarten, teachers, representatives of Berane Public Communal Enterprise, local authorities, Parents Council and principals of schools involved in the project as well as selected winners at the art competition organized among pupils.
