Within the project "Let Me Tell You Something about EU 2" implemented by FORS Montenegro, a celebration of Europe Day was organised in Pljevlja, on 8th May, in cooperation with the EU Delegation to Montenegro, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro and the Municipality of Pljevlja. During the celebration the promotional material has been distributed on EU info stand so citizens could receive information about the European Union, the European integration process of Montenegro and Montenegro's preparations for membership. Beside info stands, competitons in chess and table tennis were organised, the students assembled EU puzzle, the youngest prepared EU costume ball and creative workshops on the EU were organized.
The central celebration of Europe Day in the north of Montenegro organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Municipality of Pljevlja and FORS Montenegro, will take place in Pljevlja, on 13th July Square, at 11.00 am. Let's Talk About EU!
On 1st February, FORS Montenegro - Foundation for the Development of Northern Montenegro started the project "Let Me Tell You Something about the EU 2", which is funded by the European Union and aims to improve knowledge and understanding of citizens of northern Montenegro about European Union, its values, functioning of its institutions and the process of integration through a comprehensive campaign of raising awareness on this topic and the active involvement of the target groups. The project is being implemented in the municipalities of Berane, Andrijevica, Plav, Rožaje, Bijelo Polje, Zabljak, Šavnik, Plužine and Pljevlja, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro and local governments in target municipalities.
Within the project, on 25th April, in Bijelo Polje one-day peer education training for 1st grade secondary schools students from target municipalities on peer education was held.
In order to mark the Planet Earth Day, 22 April, FORS Montenegro in cooperation with Primary School "Radoje Čizmović" from Nikšić, Primary School "Radomir Mitrović" from Berane and Primary School "Ristan Pavlović" from Pljevlja organized art exhibitions on the topic of environmental protection. The exhibitions were prepared by the youngest children, to 4th grade. Children showed various ways of solving environmental pollution problems through their creativity and imagination, with the help of their teachers, and in that way they sent a message regarding the need and importance of environmental protection.
On the occasion of closing the project Cross-border Flood Protection and Rescue, the implementing partners FORS Montenegro – Foundation for the Development of Northern Montenegro and Montenegrin Ministry of Interior –Directorate for Emergency Management organised the press conference in order to present the projects activities and results which have been achieved. The project is funded by the European Union within Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Serbia-Montenegro with the aim of contributing to reduction of consequences of natural hazards in target municipalities - Berane, Niksic and Pljevlja in Montenegro and Prijepolje, Priboj and Nova Varos in Serbia. The press conference was held in Niksic on 14 April and was attended by the representatives of local and national media, representatives of the project partners – Radomir Scepanovic, Milan Radovic and Niko Rojevic from the Directorate for Emergency Management, Tamara Todorovic and Darko Blagojevic from FORS Montenegro and a representative of the Joint Technical Secretariat of the Cross-border Cooperation Serbia-Montenegro – Goran Prebiracevic.
In order to present the activities of the project Improvement of Tourism and Traffic Signage, whose implementation started on 1 February this year, the first press conference was organised in Trebinje on 17 March. The project has the aim to improve situation related to tourism and traffic signage in target municipalities Niksic, Pljevlja and Trebinje by placing 830 tourism and 300 traffic signs in both countries and promotion of tourist offer of target municipalities. The project is implemented by FORS Montenegro, the Municipality of Niksic, Tourism Organisation Niksic, the City of Trebinje and Tourism Organisation Trebinje. The project lasts eighteen months and it is funded by the European Union within Cross-border Cooperation Programme BiH-Montenegro. The total value of the project is 248,316.08 euros, out of which the contribution of the EU is 196,312.36 euros. The amount allocated for Montenegro is 162,256.08 euros.
Within the project CLEAN – Citizens Learning Environmental Actions Needed funded by the European Union within Cross-border Cooperation Programme Serbia – Montenegro, the Municipality of Niksic and FORS Montenegro, in collaboration with the project partners, organised a press conference in order to present the project activities and results achieved so far. It was organised in Niksic, on 5 March and the following representatives of the project partners gave speeches and familiarised the public with the results of the project: Zivko Kecojevic, Manager of the Municipality of Niksic, Miodrag Muratovic, directror of the Public Utility Company Niksic, Zivko Kolasinac, representative oif the Municipality of Nova Varos, Vule Macanovic, representative of the Municipality of Pljevlja, Mithat Bahovic, representative of the Joint Technical Secretariat of the CBC Programme Serbia – Montenegro and Veselin Sturanovic, the Executive Director of FORS Montenegro.
The project "Cross-border Flood Protection and Rescue" has among its goals raising of citizens' awareness about prevention and fight against natural disasters, with a special stress to flood protection, and a great attention was paid to the pupils of elementary schools in the cross-border region.
The education of pupils was carried out, through special lectures, with about 2000 pupils from target municipalities, Berane, Niksic and Pljevlja, who participated and had the opportunity to get more information about natural disasters in general, risks and causes of floods, potential dangers which accompany floods, as well as about the instructions on what to do before, during and after floods.
The project "Cross-border Flood Protection and Rescue" whose aim is to contribute to reducing the risk of natural disasters includes preparation and distribution of 4 newsletters in which the project team, in collaboration with partners, presents basic information about the project activities and results achieved and provides information about the situation regarding natural disasters, in the first place floods.
We present you the Newsletter No. 3 where you can find data on natural hazards in the world and the border region, EU legislation related to this topic, and what we, as a candidate and future member state of the EU, will have to apply as a good and proven practice. In this issue we present the Protection and Rescue Service from Niksic, as well as the Fire and Rescue Department from Priboj, and you can also read about project activities that implemented in the previous few months.
Climate change and frequent natural disasters are warning us that we must be well informed and prepared at all times. The project "Cross-border Flood Protection and Rescue" is being implemented in six municipalities in Serbia and Montenegro: Prijepolje, Priboj, Nova Varoš, Berane, Niksic and Pljevlja by FORS Montenegro, Sector for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia and Directorate for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro. Its total value for Montenegro is € 206,375.
As the young are a primary group that will benefit the most from the process of European integration, a large part of the project "Let Me Tell You Something about the EU" was concerned with their education about this topic. One of the most interesting activities carried out within the project was a literary competition for high school students on the topic "What the EU means to me". This activity was organized in cooperation with school managements in target municipalities and teachers of mother tongue and literature. The Committee for selection of the best works consisted of a representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro and mother tongue and literature teacher.
