Study visit to institutions of the protection and rescue system in Italy

Studijska2In order to learn about EU good practice models in protection from natural and other disasters and emergency management, a study visit to Italy was organised from 4 to 6 December 2017 for representatives of the protection and rescue systems from Montenegro, Czech Republic and Slovenia. During the visit, 16 participants learned about the organisation of the protection and rescue system in Italy, ways of functioning of different institutions and services, experiences and lessons learned in coordination of specific disasters.
During the three days of the study visit, the following institutions were visited:
- Civil Protection Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic
- National Fire Corps – Firefighting Training Centre
- Civil Protection Department of the Capital of Rome
- Ministry of Defence of the Italian Republic
Within the visit, several meetings and presentations with representatives of the above-mentioned institutions were organised which significantly contributed to the improvement of knowledge of participants. In addition to that, all representatives expressed their wish and readiness for continuation of international cooperation in this area.

Training and Exercise on protection from floods for rescue services from Montenegro, Slovenia and the Czech Republic

Vježba Poplave 1Within the project DIRECT – DIsaster REsilient Communities and Towns an international demonstration exercise on protection from floods has been organised today enabling testing and demonstration of readiness for interventions of rescuers from Montenegro, Slovenia and the Czech Republic using barriers and high capacity pumps. Before the exercise, a four-day training of rescuers from the three countries on this topic was organised including theoretical and practical parts and during which the participants had the opportunity to learn about contemporary methods of protection from floods from the instructors from Slovenia with a significant experience in this area.

Training and exercise for rescuers on Protection from Fires organised in Slovenia

Slika slA training and exercise on Protection from Fires for rescuers from Montenegro, Slovenia and the Czech Republic were organised in Slovenia from 15 to 19 October and attended by 11 representatives from Montenegro. The training included theoretical and practical work with simulation of real fires, while the demonstration exercise was organised on the last day enabling the participants to test and demonstrate knowledge and skills gained during the training. Participation in the training and exercise enabled learning about contemporary techniques and methods of fire extinguishing, including extinguishing by helicopters, testing of their level of preparedness as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience with their colleagues from other countries. The training and exercise were organised within the project DIRECT – DIsaster REsilient Communities and Towns funded by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) of the European Commission (DG ECHO) and are second events in a series devoted to capacity building of rescuers for acting in case of different emergencies. Previously, in June this year, a training and exercise on Rescuing in case of traffic accidents were organised in the Czech Republic.

Conference on Importance of Cross-border and Regional Cooperation organised in the Czech Republic

04 konf OstravaWithin the DIRECT project, a Conference on Importance of Cross-border and Regional Cooperation was organised in Ostrava on 23-24 October.
The Conference gathered around 60 representatives of institutions and organisations dealing with protection and rescue and emergency management in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and Montenegro. The aim of the Conference was to enable exchange of experiences and good practice models in the area of disaster risk reduction – DRR. During the Conference, the participants presented various benefits from international cooperation in this area including implementation of joint projects, establishment of joint teams, support by the European Union in using modern intervention techniques and provision of humanitarian aid assistance.

Training and exercise for rescuers on Rescuing in case of traffic accidents organised in the Czech Republic

Trening Ceska 3A training and exercise on Rescuing in case of traffic accidents for rescuers from Montenegro, Slovenia and the Czech Republic were organised in Czechia from 18 to 22 June and attended by 11 representatives from Montenegro. The training included theoretical and practical work with simulation of real traffic accidents, while the demonstration exercise was organised on the last day enabling the participants to test and demonstrate knowledge and skills gained during the training. Participation in the training and exercise enabled learning about contemporary techniques of rescuing from vehicles, testing of their level of preparedness as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience with their colleagues from other countries. The training and exercise were organised within the project DIRECT – DIsaster REsilient Communities and Towns funded by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) of the European Commission (DG ECHO) and are first events in a series devoted to capacity building of rescuers for acting in case of different emergencies.
