PARHS - press conference

Public Health Centre Niksic organised press conference devoted to the implementation of the PARHS project. Public Health Centre Niksic and Health Centre Raska are implementing the project “PARHS- Preventive actions in reproductive health sector“, funded by the European Union within Cross-border Cooperation Programme Serbia-Montenegro. The project is implemented in Montenegro in the municipalities of Berane, Niksic and Pljevlja, while in Serbia it is implemented in Raska and Novi Pazar by Sandzak Economic Development Agency – SEDA.

Apart from the two applicants, other project partners are: FORS Montenegro – Foundation for the Development of Northern Montenegro, Ministry of Health of the Government of Montenegro, Public Health Centre “Dr Nika Labovi?“ Berane, Public Health Centre Pljevlja and Health Centre Novi Pazar. Total value of the project for Montenegro is € 230,800.00, out of which the EU finances 85%.

The goal of the project is to improve reproductive health state among women in the cross border zone between Serbia and Montenegro. Target group of the project include women at reproductive age from five target municipalities.

The project will be realised through combination of the activities that include procurement of medical equipment, which will improve health services in the target Health Centres, awareness raising campaign among women on the importance of preventive examinations, trainings for medical practitioners, survey on information level among women on reproductive health and lectures on the importance of prevention for the target groups.

Besides the above mentioned activities, the project will pay special attention to realisation of the activity “preventive medical examinations“, which will last nine months during which we will invite women to do preventive examinations with the goal of detecting any changes that could lead to breast and cervical cancer.

During November 2012, project partners in Montenegro conducted a survey in three target municipalities in order to determine the level of awareness and care about reproductive health. The survey outcomes show that 52,9% of  interviewees never had preventive gynaecological examination, 49,8% of them never had PAP test, 83.4 do not know what a colposcopy examination is, while 86,4% of interviewed women never had mammography examination. The similar survey will be conducted at the end of project implementation.
