FORS Montenegro at the 3D Future Forum – Sustainable Cities, Waste & Circularity Rio de Janeiro, November 2025

In November 2025, FORS Montenegro participated—upon invitation from the organizers—at the international 3D Future Forum Sustainable Cities, Waste & Circularity in Rio de Janeiro, a global platform dedicated to decarbonisation, innovation, and modern approaches to resource management.
The Forum gathered representatives from institutions, industry, academia, cities, and financial organizations from around the world, with the central concept Decouple – Decarbonize – Decontaminate defining this year’s programme. The focus was on a model that emphasises decoupling economic growth from resource consumption, reducing emissions, and introducing cleaner and more sustainable technologies.
FORS Montenegro’s participation was valuable as it enabled us to:
• gain insights into advanced models of waste management and circular economy,
• exchange experiences with experts and organisations from multiple continents,
• better understand global trends in decarbonisation and innovation,
• identify ideas that can be adapted and applied in Montenegro and the region.
These topics are directly aligned with our ongoing work on circular models, and innovative approaches to waste management.
Throughout the Forum, we established numerous professional contacts through both formal meetings and informal exchanges, particularly with experts from Latin America, Europe, North America, and Asia. Especially useful were presentations and discussions on:
• decarbonisation and industrial transformation,
• innovations in waste treatment and management,
• digital solutions and the importance of data for efficient waste-management systems,
• applying circular economy principles in urban and industrial settings.
The sessions showcased a wide range of international good practices—from technological innovations to operational models for turning waste into resources—which have already delivered measurable results in several Latin American cities and beyond.
Several key principles of modern resource management clearly emerged from the discussions:
• transforming waste-management systems is essential for reducing emissions and building sustainable, resilient communities,
• circular models and innovations create new economic opportunities,
• digitalisation and data systems are the backbone of modern solutions,
• the most effective outcomes are achieved through partnerships between the public sector, industry, financial institutions, and academia.
Participation in the Forum strengthened our technical knowledge and provides a solid foundation for planning and implementing new circular-economy initiatives. It also reinforced our international partnerships and improved our positioning for future opportunities under Danube Programme, ADRION, IPA CBC and other relevant European and international frameworks.
Overall, the 3D Future Forum represents an important step forward for FORS Montenegro and for the further development of modern, sustainable resource-management approaches. The knowledge, experiences, and contacts gained in Rio de Janeiro will serve as a foundation for the projects and initiatives we will develop in the coming period.
