Meeting with Representatives of the Municipality of Nikšić Held within the Green Booster Project

As part of the Green Booster project, an introductory meeting with representatives of the Municipality of Nikšić was held on 3 November 2026, focusing on the development of practical and sustainable financing mechanisms for implementing energy efficiency measures and promoting the use of renewable energy sources at the local level.
The meeting provided an opportunity to familiarise participants with the upcoming activities and the planned approach, as well as to exchange views on local needs and experiences. Discussions also focused on the challenges and opportunities related to the development of financing mechanisms that would help translate priorities identified in local strategic documents into concrete projects and measures.
Participants were introduced to the key aspects of developing and implementing financing mechanisms to support energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. The discussions covered available funding sources, co-financing options, beneficiary selection criteria, implementation procedures and monitoring of results. Particular emphasis was placed on the long-term sustainability of these mechanisms and the possibilities for integrating them into the regular activities and budget planning processes of the local government.
The meeting also addressed the methodology for developing financing mechanisms, the data and information required, and the next steps in the development process. The importance of adapting the proposed solutions to local needs, administrative capacities and available financial resources was highlighted.
The Green Booster project is implemented by FORS Montenegro in partnership with the Centre for Development and Support (CRP) from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the lead partner, the Regional Development Agency Srem from Serbia, and the City of Živinice from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The project is funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) under the International Partnerships Austria programme and the European Climate Initiative (EUKI). The Austrian Development Agency is the federal agency responsible for Austria’s development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. EUKI is a project financing instrument of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), with EUKI calls for project proposals implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. EUKI’s primary objective is to strengthen climate cooperation within the European Union (EU) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
