Strengthening Capacity of Municipal Teams for Emergency Management

In order to improve coordination of the line bodies at the local level in case of emergencies, a training for municipal teams from emergency management on Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management was organized in Zabljak on 9 and 10 September. The training was attended by 20 members of municipal teams for emergency management from Nikšić, Žabljak, Pljevlja, Plužine and Šavnik. As municipal teams for emergency management are among the main actors when hazards strike a municipality, during the training the participants had the opportunity to learn about key concepts of disaster risk reduction, the role of municipal teams for emergencies, components of disaster risk management at the local level, identification, evaluation and monitoring of risks, formulation of local plans as well as international initiatives and cooperation in disaster risk reduction.
Apart from improvement of skills and knowledge for disaster risk reduction at the local level, the aim of the training was the exchange of experiences and improvement of collaboration between teams from different municipalities which face the same tasks and challenges in case of emergencies.


The training was organized through the project “Cross-border Fire Protection” financed by the European Union within Cross-border Cooperation Programme Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro and implemented by FORS Montenegro, Directorate for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro, the Ministry of Security of BiH and Institute for Protection of Fires and Explosions from Sarajevo.
